Here are some of the key ways you can contribute this season. Click to learn more about each role.

Our Board of Directors is made up of dedicated volunteers who help guide the club’s direction, support long-term planning and ensure our programs meet Skate Canada and ONCA standards.

What you’ll do:

Attend monthly board meetings
Provide leadership and oversight in key areas like finance, programs, events or communications
Help shape policies, strategic planning and club governance
Support special events and club initiatives when available

Time commitment:
Monthly meetings plus occasional committee work or event support.

Why it matters:
The Board plays a key role in keeping our club thriving and sustainable. If you have skills in leadership, administration, communication or community work, this is a great way to make a meaningful impact.

Registration Desk Volunteer
The Registration Desk is a go to spot for families each session. It is where skaters and parents can pick up name tags, handouts, event information, fundraising forms, and get help with general questions.

What you’ll do

Welcome skaters and families as they arrive
Hand out name tags and program materials
Share information about upcoming events and fundraising
Help direct families to the right coach or board member for specific questions
Keep the desk area organized and tidy

Time commitment

Short shifts during regular skating sessions

You can volunteer for one session a week or more, depending on your availability

Why it matters

A friendly, reliable Registration Desk helps families feel informed and supported. It keeps communication clear, reduces confusion at the rink, and makes each session run more smoothly for skaters, parents, and coaches.

Our Club Competition is one of the most exciting events of the season and relies on volunteers to help everything run smoothly.

What you’ll do:

Support registration and check-in
Assist skaters with warm-up areas
Help with music playing and timing
Guide families and spectators around the rink
Support judges and ice technicians as needed

Time commitment:
Usually a full event day or split shifts depending on your availability.

Why it matters:
This is a high-energy day that celebrates the hard work of our skaters. Volunteers help create a smooth, positive and encouraging experience for every participant.

Test Days are important milestones for our STARSkate athletes, and volunteers help make the experience organized and positive.

What you’ll do:

Support check-in and skater flow
Assist with hospitality and music
Help with ice captain duties and communication
Guide spectators and families

Time commitment:
Usually one test session, typically around three hours.
Why it matters:
Your support helps skaters stay calm, focused and prepared during an important assessment day.

Our biannual Ice Show and special events bring the whole community together and rely on volunteers to run smoothly.

What you’ll do:

Assist with ticket sales and front-of-house
Help skaters backstage with costumes and transitions
Support setup and teardown
Guide families and spectators

Time commitment:
Planning meetings plus event-day support.

Why it matters:
These events highlight the hard work of our skaters and showcase the club to the community. Volunteers help create a fun and memorable experience for everyone.

Help keep our programs affordable by supporting club fundraisers throughout the season.

What you’ll do:
You can choose to help organize a fundraiser from start to finish or just lend a hand on event day. Tasks might include:

Helping promote a fundraiser online or at the rink
Sorting and organizing orders
Handing out items at cookie or product pickups
Assisting with setup and cleanup at fundraising events

Time commitment:
This role is flexible. You do not need to help with every fundraiser. Most opportunities are 1–3 hours at a time, and you can sign up for the dates that work for you.

Why it matters:
Fundraising helps offset ice costs, supports special events and keeps program fees as low as possible for our skating families.
