Welcome to the Georgetown Skating Club

President's Message

Summertime greetings to all of the members of the Georgetown Skating Club. As you are all aware the HST came into effect on July 1, 2010 which impacts our club dramatically on our ice rental costs. In addition, the town has increased our ice user costs by 4 percent. In spite of these increases to our expenses, your executive has done everything in it's power to keep the fees down and to add transparency to our pricing. At the same time, we have endeavored to produce a more streamlined schedule based on our survey responses, lengthened some of our programs, added more options and have introduced an exciting new program to our lineup. We hope you will be pleased with our efforts.

The skating season starts for all groups from the PRE-Canskate to the High Performance and STARSkate programs the week after Labour Day September 8-9, 2010 and carries through to the ice show finale on April 9, 2011. This new schedule adds an extra 10 minutes per session to the Canskate program as well as making it approximately 4 weeks longer. The Junior STARSkate session now has group lessons included based on the results of the survey and discussion with coaching staff over the last four months. We have added a High Performance program for skaters who want to compete at a higher level and move into a competitive skating stream. The club is in the process of signing coaches for the upcoming year and we will be adding extra male dance coaches in response to the request of the membership over the last season.

The board will continue to be very frugal in our spending and very careful where we spend money. But as always, cost cutting alone is not enough. We urgently need help from our membership to volunteer throughout the year. If each family could donate just one hour of time at our various fundraisers, competitions and community events, this would go a long, long way to helping us reach our goals of greater visibility in our community, increased membership and ultimately fee reductions for every family as our costs are spread out over a greater number of skaters. Keep tuned for some new and exciting fundraising events coming up! Please check our website or ask any Board member how you can help- we will be more than happy to have your support!

The Georgetown Skating Club On-Line Registration will be up shortly as will the Town Of Halton Hills Fall Program Booklet. We will have live registration at Georgetown Marketplace Mall on Saturday, July 17th and Sunday July 18th as well as Saturday August 14th and Sunday, August 15th, 2010. In addition, please save your bottles for our Annual Bottle Drive Fundraiser Saturday, August 21st where your donations can be dropped off at the beer store to benefit the club from 11:00 - 1:00. We are looking to our club volunteers to collect for us on their own street. If everyone helps, we will have a very successful day. Thanking you in advance for your help!
